Why Adult and pupa of Harmonia spa lady beetle are being found in my bedroom????
My husband and our baby just moved to my mother in-law's 2nd house but everyday I found one or two of these ladybugs on our bedroom ceiling... how can I stop this?
if you are in a cold environ, they have to overwinter in warmth - which is likely your house. This species is actually notorious for entering homes and the US dept of Agriculture has banned the sale of them (for pest control (they eat aphids and such) due to this behaviour... Anyway, as I mentioned, they are predators of other insects such that if there is a food source for them in your house, they will continue to survive. They also like to feed on ripening fruit - so make sure that is cleared away. I am not sure where you live but they were brought to North America to control aphid populations, as well as other insects. The problem with this particular species is that they have been taking over native lady bird beetle species' habitats and doing extremely well! Back in 2002 there was a HUGE outbreak of them in southern Ontario, and they may be on the rise again. They are relatively new to NA so I am not sure if they exhibit population cycles - where their populations outbreak and crash over a number of years.
Anyway, to get rid of them, remove food sources that you have control over (fruit and such). You can also sweep them away and vacuum them up. If their numbers are REALLY bothering you, you could purchase a commercial indoor light trap but those can run a fair amount of money. They will attract the beetles though, and kill them (use the light trap only at night when there is no other competing light source). You should also try and prevent them from coming into the house by caulking any cracks or crevices, particularly around vents and such.
If you see some larger flies around the beetles - they are likely parasitoids that will lay eggs in them. You want those because it kills the beetles!!!
